In the only Premier League fixture for the weekend, Manchester United today take on Phil Brown’s Hull City with a chance to go top of the table within their grasp. After the emotional roller-coaster that was the Manchester Derby, this is likely to be a more straightforward affair. In fact, this tie provides us with an ideal opportunity to get into some fine goal-scoring form before running into two highly critical games against Manchester City and Arsenal waiting for us around the corner. This is it, you know. This is it. Probably one of the most important games Manchester United is going to be involved in this season. With our on-and-off form this season coupled with the financial turmoil brought on by the messengers of doom (the Glazers), the club is at a crossroads. From here we can take the path to redemption or the one that leads us to destruction. Okay that is a little too dramatic. But you know what I mean don’t you? [Keep Reading…]
It would be a fitting bit of irony if United could kick-start a revival mission by setting out a statement of intent against the very same team that started their downhill descent this season. The 1-0 defeat away to Burnley was our first exposure to the brittleness and impotence in attack that has now become a hallmark of the current United side. There is something so enchanting about Manchester United and stoppage times. Some of the most endearing memories of the Fergie era have been carved out in stoppage times. Having already tied up the qualification to the knock-out stages of the Champions League, United will lock horns with German champions VfL Wolfsburg tonight hoping to atleast earn a draw in order to clinch top spot. However, the United side is so badly ravaged by injuries that calling it a crisis sounds like a euphemism. Against a Wolfsburg side that needs to win in order to ensure qualification, it is going to be extremely difficult for us. [Keep Reading…]
It is not often that you see Manchester United approaching a game as underdogs. But when United take the field tomorrow at Stamford Bridge, that is what they will be- underdogs. Stamford Bridge has been somewhat of an Elba for our Napoleanic ambitions. It has been a full seven years since we came back with three points from the Bridge. Those were the times of a different Chelsea- a Ranieri Chelsea, a cashless Chelsea. Since then it has been all about disappointments and missed chances. And sadly, from my point of view, another disappointment lies in the offing tomorrow. [Keep Reading…]
