Match Review

Following are the match highlights for yesterdays’ match against AC Milan. We were lucky with Scholes’ goals and Rooney was at his “header” best. Here are the highlights.

Wayne Rooney helped United reach the top of the league charts with a scintillating performance of FOUR (Yes! You read it right) goals against Hull City today. Rooney’s four-goal haul extends his lead in the Premier League’s top scorer stakes. He now has 19 league goals, four more than the next highest scorers, Darren Bent, Jermain Defoe and Didier Drogba, all with 14.

dimitar_berbatov_1560428cUnited went back to winning ways (finally) with a 3-0 home win over Burnley that will definitely go some way towards numbing some of the pain that has been inflicted over United supporters over the past few weeks. However, if you think that this 3-0 win was one of those old fashioned cakewalks you need to think again. On any other day and against any other opposition we might have ended up conceding two before even registering our first goal. As it turned out, Burnley’s poor finishing handed us the impetus and we duly cashed in on it. [Keep Reading…]

Owen-WolfsburgLet me start off with an admission. I am now a certified hypocrite. It is amazing how I have traveled a whole gulf of emotions in a matter of a few years. Watching Michael Owen in the Liverpool red would make me nauseous. Now look at me, championing his cause for a regular starting berth. But who cares, right? Michael Owen is now a Red and whether he hates Scousers or not, he is scoring goals for United. And last night Michael Owen showed the entire world that finishing is an art of which he is a Picasso. Ryan Giggs Manchester United 2008/09

While we had gone in today’s match as underdogs with the entire United community predicting a draw or a loss, the show that our lads put up was exemplary. We not only dominated the game but showed a character and strength that made me feel proud to be a supporter of such a club. However, not all good things are meant to last. So when Matkin Atkinson the match referee gave a clean tackle marked as foul and awarded Chelsea a free kick that went on to be scored, I along with millions of Red Devil fans was shattered. Owen-Obertan_1511374cManchester United expectedly clinched their place in the quarter-finals of the Carling Cup with a 2-0 victory over struggling Championship side Barnsley on Tuesday with goals from Welbeck and Owen ensuring a return to winning ways following a highly disappointing result against Liverpool. Continuing with the tradition of using the Carling Cup as a platform for fielding young talent, Sir Alex handed out starts to the likes of Welbeck, Macheda, the Da Silva twins and Gabriel Obertan, who was making his debut for United. Others like Joshua King, Ritchie De Laet and Zoran Tosic were booked seats on the bench. Michael Owen got a start presumably to increase his match sharpness while Jonny Evans, Wes Brown and Gary Neville were roped in to lend an air of experience into the line-up. [Keep Reading…]

An open letter to Sir Alex

by professorkaka26.10.2009 Match Review

Dear Sir Alex,
First of all, I am a big, big fan of yours. So much so that even if you direct me to kiss your feet, I would do it without any qualms. For years I have seen you build one unconquerable United side after another. I have seen you make astute buys, change games [...]

United march on in Europe

by professorkaka01.10.2009 Match Review

A lively European night at Old Trafford saw Manchester United, the English champions, taking on Vfl Wolfsburg, the German champions, in an encounter that was billed to be an exhibition of attacking football. Before the game, Armin Veh, the Wolfsburg manager, had promised an attacking approach to the game. And for once, an opposing manager [...]

United Begin European March With A Dour 1-0 Win

by professorkaka16.09.2009 Match Review

United began the road to Bernabeu in Turkey with a 1-0 win over Besiktas. Paul Scholes, who had been unceremoniously ejected against Tottenham on Saturday popped up 13 minutes from time to head in our only goal of the game after the Besiktas keeper had parried Nani’s left-footed drive. Seeing as this was supposed to [...]

You Wrote Us Off, Did You?

by professorkaka12.09.2009 Match Review

Ever since the season began, the talk has been all about how United are weaker in every department. About how we would miss Ronaldo and Tevez, about how other teams had strengthened and we hadn’t, about how we were lacking in creativity and all that jazz. Our performance against Birmingham added fuel to the whispers, [...]
