PFA Player of the Year and the BBC Sports Personality of the Year (Sir) Ryan Giggs has signed a new one-year contract extension that will see him staying at the club till the end of the 2011 season. Giggs has been in vintage form this season chipping in with assists and goals this season (Giggs is second only to Cesc Fabregas in the list of maximum assists made in the league). At the ripe young age of 36, Giggs has shown that he remains more than just useful for the club. Now for the knighthood Giggsy!
The Champions League draw for the first knock-out stage is out and United have been drawn to face AC Milan with the first leg being played at the San Siro followed by the second leg at Old Trafford. The fixture, in itself a battle between two European heavyweights, will be watched upon by the entire world owing to the fact that David Beckham will return to the stage where he first made his name. Looks like Rio Ferdinand’s injury problems seem to be only getting bigger and more serious with time. What started off as a calf injury was linked to his back problems as revealed by Sir Alex Ferguson, however, it is learnt that Manchester United and Rio might be on a way to try out a new treatment for reducing the time Rio spends off the field owing to the injury. Sir Alex Ferguson has been banned for four matches two of which are suspended until the end of 2010-11 season, and fined 20,000 pounds ($33,150) by Football Association (FA) following the Alan Wiley ‘unfit’ comments. The suspended sanction will be automatically activated should Sir Alex be found guilty of a similar charge before the end of the 2010/11 season.
