Frazier Campbell has joined Sunderland for a fee of about £ 3.5 million with the fee potentially rising to £ 6 million. Frazier has signed a four-year deal with the Black Cats after ditching Hull who were considered the front runners for securing his signature.
Frazier came through our ranks before joining Royal Antwerp on a successful loan deal. His good performances helped him gain Sir Alex’s attention and he was handed a few league appearances. Sadly, the manager did not think that he had it in him to secure a regular role in our setup and again sent him out on a loan deal first to Hull and then to Tottenham. He did star in a few games for Tottenham but was largely ignored in favour of more established stars like Bent and Pavlyunchenko. He was expected to join Hull with whom he had already had a successful spell. But he made the decision to join the Black Cats probably after realizing that they had more potential and a better manager compared to Hull. Let’s hope Brucey can let this boy realize his potential.
I wish the guy all the best. After all he leaves with no hard feelings. He didn’t quite have the ‘it’ factor in him to make it at OT. SAF clearly thought that Welbeck and Macheda were better prospects and there was no point in retaining him. With this move, Campbell will have more first team action and will be able to develop as a footballer. So goodbye Frazier and have a great career!
