Destined to face each other

Patrice Evra has been my favorite United player this season. His explosive forward darts combined with his solidity at the back make him, in my mind, the best left-back in the world. Not only does Patty set the pitch alight with his exemplary performances, he also makes all the right noises off the pitch. He is one of those players who find playing for Manchester United a dream come true and consequently try to give their best on the pitch. He is also one hell of a character and his off-the-field snippets are always fun to listen to. In his latest offering to the media, Patrice has revealed that his exceptionally strong psychic powers tell him that a European date with Real Madrid is inevitable and sooner or later, Manchester United are destined to face Cristiano Ronaldo as an opposing player. Not that Evra is worried though.

In an interview with Inside United, Patrice says:

“I know we will play Real Madrid. I can’t explain it. It is just a feeling. But I think we will play them, maybe even in the next round.”

Now, since both Real and United have made solid starts to their respective European campaigns, a showdown is very much a possibility. The seeding system used by UEFA makes a pre-quarters showdown a near impossibility but after that it is very much on the cards. Ever since Ronaldo made that switch to Real, a Real-United clash is seeming like it is meant to be. If it does materialize finally, Evra would have the unenviable task of dealing with Ronaldo. But if anyone can do it, surely Evra can.

“I once played against him in an Under-21 international but remember, I used to face him every day in training. He knows it could be very difficult for him.”

Evra was of many who were sad to see Ronaldo leave. However, even more harrowing for the Frenchman was the exit of best friend Carlos Tevez. Evra and Tevez, along with Park, used to be inseparable during their time together which is strange given the fact that all of them speak a different language. This is what Evra had to say about his two best buds.

“I am still good friends with Carlos but it was painful when I saw him with the City shirt on. He was upset by the booing but he understands.”

“Because I am a close friend of Ji there has been this reaction [in Korea]. This is what happens when you play for United. You go to every part of the world and everybody loves you.”

Evra’s love for United is evident everytime he makes any appearance in front of the media. He is also very much a team player and understands that at United, there are no stars.

“The thing about Manchester United is, no one player is the star – the club is the star. Sir Alex Ferguson tries to maintain that every year.”

We love you Patrice, we seriously do.
