Michael Owen has been in a series of news articles today. Earlier today, he talked of United being the real target and not England. Clearly the lad now reckons to the club ideology of United>England. Despite the spotlight on a potential place in the national team, Owen maintains that his focus is on bringing laurels to his club.
“England is something I don’t really think about,” said the diminutive striker, according to the Press Association.
“It is probably something people talk about a lot more than I think about really.
“The last squad I was in was over a year ago now. I have played for England 89 times and I would love to play for England again.
“But I am concentrating on playing for Manchester United. I genuinely go to bed thinking that I have got to play well the next day and win games for Manchester United, not that if I score or play well I might get picked for England.”
Meanwhile, MO7 who played at Bernabeu for 12 months wants to go back to the place with the Red Devils.
“It’s everybody’s dream [to win the Champions League] and coming to a club like Manchester United you’re always competing at the top level,” he told reporters at United’s pre-match press conference.
“That’s one of the things you look at when you’re first asked to join the club. It’s one of the big things that stuck in my mind – playing in big European games and top League games is everybody’s dream.
“It’s very difficult to win these competitions but it’s our aim to do that and it’s exciting to be part of it.”
Four months into his United career, Owen says he feels completely at home at Old Trafford and is pleased with his progress to date.
“I’ve loved every minute of it. It’s been everything I expected… and more,”
