Antonio Valencia

Rooney StropIn keeping with our tactics for European away games, Sir Alex decided to field Wayne Rooney as the lone striker up front with a packed 5-man midfield supporting him from the back. The system is similar to the one we employed against Arsenal and Barcelona during last season’s Champions League. However, what made that system work (and I am assuming that it did work; after all we made it to the Champs League final didn’t we?) was Ronaldo. With him gone, it becomes increasingly difficult for the lone-man up front to get any kind of service especially when the midfielders are putting in some ordinary performances. Wayne felt the hopelessness of that lone furrow yesterday after spending about an hour on the field putting in a lot of hard work, but to no avail. There simply wasn’t any decent service for him. Then, when his number came up at around the hour mark, he let his frustration get the better of himself. Shaking his head, he made the long trudge to the bench before throwing away his boots angrily to the ground. However, in case you are reading too much into it, Sir Alex has quickly poured water over all conjecture by completely dismissing the incident like it never happened. [Keep Reading…]

When Cristiano Ronaldo came to United in 2004, he was by no means a polished article. He was an extremely talented youngster, no doubt about that. But most of the times his decision-making was horrible and his tricks and skills were never exhibited at the opportune moment. His trickery was more about showboating than about effectiveness. But under the stewardship of Sir Alex, he grew into a phenomenal player scoring 42 and 26 goals in the last two seasons. This, considering he was a wide player in essence, is an astounding fact. We got six unbelievable years out of him and then sold him at a profit of £68 million; I don’t think any club has ever reaped such fruits from any particular player, especially from one who had always nurtured another club in his dreams. Now that he is gone, he will be sorely missed. But in football, things never stall over one player. We have a new talent on our hands, one which has an unenviable task of replacing The World’s Best Talent. But the 80-million dollar question is: Is Antonio Valencia good enough? [Keep Reading…]

Looks like this week is far from over as far as disappointing news from United are to be concerned. Sir Alex Ferguson has confirmed that new Manchester United signing Gabriel Obertan will be out for at least three months! So for all those who wanted to see the acclaimed “Next Henry” in action, there is only one thing I can add; I am equally dissapointed. :( Also Vidic and Valencia miss the Asia Tour but will be available for Audi Cup. Real or Fake?

Real or Fake?

While the news of Owen being handed number Seven Jersey is true, I cannot say the same about this image. The pic was shown in an article on Sun Football, about Alex Ferguson’s new signings. What I am not able to decipher is the authenticity of the picture! Since as far as I know Michael Owen was wearing a number 19 today at the function and I wonder if he managed to sneak out to change his Jersey and give Sun the Pic only  Picture we have seen in the day that gives proof about the Number Seven Jersey being given actually to Michael Owen.

What do you think? Is the picture a fake or real one? Here are the pictures from the New Players Ceremony today. (Do notice Owen wearing the number 19 and not number 7) [Keep Reading…]
