Pini Zahavi is football’s one and only superagent. He has accomplished some of the biggest and most controversial deals in English football, whether it is a club that is being bought or whether it is a player. Roman Abramovich’s acquisition of Chelsea, the Ashley Cole ‘tapping-up’ affair and Rio Ferdinand’s controversial move from Leeds to Manchester United have all been carried out under the watchful eyes of Pini Zahavi. Zahavi, who is an extremely reclusive man, has today come out in support of his client, friend and protégé Rio Ferdinand by trying to explain the reasons behind Rio’s bewildering loss of form that has seen him commit a series of uncharacteristic blunders. Zahavi reckons that it is Ferdinand’s tryst with injuries that is behind his lack of pace and concentration which is ultimately being manifested in the form of mistakes. [Keep Reading…]
It is that time of the year again. Manchester United lock horns with traditional rivals Liverpool on Sunday in a fixture that is looked forward to the most by any United fan. After suffering heart-break and agony over both ties against Liverpool last season, Manchester United would be looking forward to achieving some joy in the two fixtures this season. First up is the trip to Anfield and frankly speaking, Liverpool have never appeared weaker than they are now. However, as the saying goes, an opponent is at his most dangerous when backed into the corner. There is no place for complacency at all; we have to be at the top of our game to gain anything from the fixture. Our task has been made a lot more difficult by the news that two of our most crucial players this term in Wayne Rooney and Darren Fletcher are doubtful for this key clash. [Keep Reading…]
Will be missed in Moscow
Manchester United have travelled to Moscow for their Champions League showdown with CSKA Moskva without a bunch of five major players. All of Giggsy, Rooney, Evra, Fletcher and Park have been declared unfit for the trip to Moscow on account of a variety of injuries. While Rooney and Fletch are still carrying the injuries they incurred on international duty, Giggsy and Evra picked up knocks during the Bolton game. Meanwhile Korean sources report that Park is being rested as a precaution due to a water on the knee problem. With five such important players missing, it is going to be extremely difficult for us to negotiate a lively CSKA side, that too in front of a boisterous home support. [Keep Reading…]
Calf injury rules Rooney out
With the World Cup qualifiers finally done and dusted with, it is time for us to get back to the rigours of the Premier League. Last seen, the United players were struggling to get to terms with a lively Sunderland side and only a stoppage-time gift from Anton Ferdinand saved us from a home defeat. Now, Gary Megson’s Bolton come visiting to Old Trafford and needless to say, a win would be the only acceptable result. However, the quest for three points against a very physical Bolton side has been made all the more difficult by Sir Alex’ announcement that Rooney is expected to miss the game due to a calf injury and to make matters worse, Berbatov is a major doubt too. After a much criticised performance by Foster and the obvious need for the maestro to be back, here is the news that we had been waiting for. The Dutch has been out of action since breaking his hand in August’s pre-season penalty shootout against Bayern Munich, but is ready to return after training over recent weeks. Edwin van der Sar starts for the Reserves at Everton on Tuesday evening, as he prepares for his first competitive action of the season. [Keep Reading…]
Owen Hargreaves was last seen in the red United shirt when we played Chelsea at Stamford Bridge last season. It was after that game that a decision to pursue an operation was taken in relation to his tendinitis. It has been quite a while since then and even till now, the possibility of Hargo’s return is just a mirage that might get vanquished any day. However, considering Hargo’s importance for our squad, every positive update on his injury status is cheered by all United fans unequivocally. Another such update was out in the news recently with word flying around that Hargo had returned to Carrington in order to finish the last phase of his rehabilitation. A very positive bit of news indeed. [Keep Reading…]
