Michael Owen has been in a series of news articles today. Earlier today, he talked of United being the real target and not England. Clearly the lad now reckons to the club ideology of United>England. Despite the spotlight on a potential place in the national team, Owen maintains that his focus is on bringing laurels to his club. In his autobiography, Steven Gerrard (Liverpool’s Captain Marvel who once wanted to leave the club for the roubles at Chelsea) has talked about his sordid life and Liverpool FC in general. Going through its pages is an excruciating ordeal. However, there is this interesting piece of information, or rather opinion, that I managed to notice. In the book, Gerrard talks about former Kop legend Michael Owen. He calls Owen ‘the best striker in the history of Liverpool FC’. He goes on to add that “Michael was as much a part of Liverpool as the Kop and the Shankly Gates”. There is hardly a more credible source that can back Owen’s claim as a Liverpool legend. He scored a mammoth 158 goals for the club, helping Liverpool win a number of matches single-handedly. [Keep Reading…]

It seems good times are here for Number 7 Michael Owen. After his scintillating goal in the seconds of the Manchester Derby got us to victory, Sir Alex seems to have given the lad a much needed break from starting on bench. Owen Loves It At United
One of the big transfer shocks of the post-season was the arrival of Michael Owen to Manchester United. One day I was mocking Owen for his tremendously desperate brochure and the next day I saw him as a United player. Being a devoted United fan, I decided to get behind the player. After all, the Carlos Tevez saga had taught me one important thing- a player’s past is irrelevant. It is the present and the future that matters. With a couple of eye-catching performances during the pre-season friendlies, Owen had already started growing on me. Now, the idea of getting Owen to United doesn’t seem preposterous at all. The one thing I have noticed with Owen is that he looks like giving it all for United everytime he turns out for us. His new-found fondness for United was on show during an interview he gave recently where he claims to love life at Manchester United. [Keep Reading…]
I am sure almost everyone with some football sense would have smirked snidely after reading about the desperate attempts of Owen’s agents to land him a job. I was among the hysterical ones too. The smirk, though, was wiped off when I read about his signing a two year deal for us. For a moment, I actually thought it was some prank on the newspaper’s part. That was the level to which I feel most of the fans would have deemed their shock.
Were we right with our instincts which spelled danger at the beginning? [Keep Reading…]
